Volkswagen Golf R 400 Spied Testing for the First Time

We would be so happy to carry a Golf R 400 at Sierra Volkswagen, and all signs point toward that happening.

The concept was first unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in 2014. After that, we were told it would definitely come to the United States if it was ever cleared for production. Then we were told that it had been cleared for production, but details were still a bit murky.

This time, though, we’re even more certain it’ll happen, partly because the Volkswagen Golf R 400 has been spied in testing. At least it looks like the Golf R 400. This one has bigger brakes, different wheels, very low-profile tires, a front lip spoiler, and a rear wing reminiscent of the GTI Clubsport, but we’re not sure what else it could be.

Either way, we’re highly anticipating this one, especially since it’s supposed to come with four-wheel-drive and more than 400 brake horsepower. Stay tuned for the latest news!

Tanner Foust Drifts 900 HP Passat Around Cycling TT Course

cycling TT course

Drifting is nearly never the fastest way around a corner—but no one can argue it isn’t almost universally the coolest way around one.

Even pro cyclist Tim Johnson seems to think so, and he rides a bicycle. Hardly a vehicle suited for drifting.

Before the USA Cycling Time Trials took place in Chattanooga, TN, which also happens to be home to Volkswagen’s headquarters, the automaker decided to have a bit of fun.

They invited professional rally driver Tanner Foust to take a 900-horsepower Volkswagen Passat Rockstar Drift car to go around the cycling TT course. Tim Johnson got to ride along to show Foust some of the intricacies of the course, but that didn’t seem to matter much to Foust. As far as he knew, the best way to take the roundabouts and turnaround points was the one that left the most smoke behind.

Check out what happened in the clip below! It’s crazy to think that car is just a modified version of the same Passat we carry at Sierra Volkswagen!

Volkswagen Golf R400 is a Go!

Volkswagen Golf R400

If you’ve been wondering if the Volkswagen Golf R400 that debuted at the New York International Auto Show would be making its way here to the states, your question has been answered. According to Dr Heinz-Jakon Neusser, Volkswagen group powertrain chief, the new R400 is a go.

The news was first broken by Car Magazine and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Neusser said, “We have the Golf more sporty than ever before, since we soon will have the Golf R400 – we will do this car. We are in fact in development of it right now.”

The hot, new hatch is said to be four-wheel drive and produce 400 hp. It’s also speculated that it will be debuting this fall at the Frankfurt Motor Show and then be available to customers as soon as early 2016.

We are really excited for the new Golf R400 to be making its way here and hope you are too! Stay tuned to our blog and we’ll let you know when the hatch makes its official debut.

Spring Car Care Tips

Spring car tips

Warmer weather is on its way and just like the humidity, the heat can make minor car problems much worse. That’s why you’ll want to check over everything under the hood before the summer weather really hits hard. Don’t know what to look for? No worries – we’ve got you covered with some tips for spring car care.

  • Check the battery. Small cracks may not be noticeable at first but in the heat, everything tends to expand. Take it out and look it over for cracks, leaks, and bulges. If you find any, you’ll want to get a new one as soon as possible.
  • Look over the hoses. While this may sound like a hassle it can save you a bundle in the long run. Cracks, holes, and leaks can leave you stranded on the side of the road if not taken care of quickly.
  • Inspect the braking system. This one is probably best left to a professional so it’ll cost you a little out of pocket. The good news is it only needs to be done once a year. At every oil change you’ll want the linings, rotors, and drums inspected for defects though.

The Idea of the Electric Volkswagen Bus is Alive and Well Again

Volkswagen Electric

The Volkswagen Bus has long been a legendary vehicle, both for its popularity as a people mover in the hippest decades of the twentieth century and for its continued hallowed place in American culture.

Heck, there is even an (incredibly awesome) Lego set available of the bus. So, when we recently heard that the idea of the electric Volkswagen bus is back, we got pretty excited.

We first heard such an idea about five years ago, and a concept soon followed—the electric Bulli van, a German version of our beloved VW bus. Now, Heinz-Jacob Neusser—a VW board member—is talking to Autocar magazine about bring an electric bus to production finally. The idea would be to power the van with a battery pack in the floor and an electric motor turning the front wheels.

It’s basically an updated version of the e-Golf’s powertrain, but with bigger and better batteries, of course. There are still some hurdles to cross—most of them related to keep the electric bus affordable—but we’re still hopeful here at Sierra VW that this might be a real thing.

Come see us to learn more about the potential bus or to check out the rest of our awesome EV models today.

VW Possibly Bringing Volkswagen Golf R 400 to U.S. Market

Volkswagen Golf R 400

When Volkswagen first revealed the Volkswagen Golf R 400 last year at the Beijing Auto Show, the industry couldn’t help but get a bit excited. Now, it looks like it’s possible that this high-power Golf hatchback might be coming to American soil—if Volkswagen decides to give it the production green light.

According to Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neusser, member of the VW board of management, the U.S. market is the perfect platform to introduce this sporty new hatchback. With the original Golf earning both Motor Trend Car of the Year and North American Car of the Year, it’s likely that the American market will respond well to a new edition of the hatchback.

The Volkswagen Golf R 400 combines the Golf’s sporty exterior with an even sportier powertrain, making it significantly more fun-to-drive. Now, it’s just a matter of whether or not the German carmaker will produce this super sporty hatch.

The New 2015 Golf SportWagen is on its Way

new 2015 Golf SportWagen

In the next couple of weeks the new 2015 Golf SportWagen will be on its way to dealerships across the US. Volkswagen changed the name to the Golf SportWagen after previously being sold as the Jetta SportWagen so all hatchbacks would be under the same name.

The Golf SportWagen offers an unprecedented amount of cargo room with 30.4 cubic feet of space. If more space is needed, folding the seats down allows you to have a max capacity of 66.5 cubic feet of room. In addition, the new SportWagen offers impressive mpg ratings, especially the diesel version which returns 31 mpg city and 43 mph highway.

The Golf SportWagen got a few design tweaks as well. It gained an inch in length and comes with a more modern, sporty look. This compact crossover is a great choice for those seeking affordability, style, and efficiency!

Pet-Proofing Car Tips in Preparation for National Pet Month

Pet-Proofing Car Tips

April is National Pet Month—the time of the year where we all pay special attention to our furry friends. Many pets, dogs in particular, love a leisurely drive in the car (though they might get suspicious if you mention the vet).

Unfortunately, shedding pets can make a big mess in the backseat, so we’ve put together a brief list of pet-proofing car tips:

  • Put a blanket or a plastic tarp over the backseat of your car, so that no matter how much your pet sheds, you’ll be able to remove the covering and wash it.
  • If your dog tends to slobber all over the window, consider covering the glass with plastic wrap to protect it.
  • For smaller pets, like cats, keeping them in a carrier while in the car is not only much safer for the cat but also will keep your car free from cat hair.
  • Keep in mind that plastic floor mats are much easier to clean, in the event of “spills,” than fabric mats.

Do you have any other ideas to protect your car from your lovable, but messy, pets? Let us know in the comments.

New 2015 Volkswagen Golf R Makes Driving Fun Again

new 2015 volkswagen Golf R

The new 2015 Volkswagen Golf R has got some serious snap. It’ll take you from 0 to 60 in less than five seconds. But then again, that’s what you get when you’ve got a turbocharged four-cylinder under the hood.

But as USA Today says, if that’s all that the Golf R did, it would be a “kid’s car.” No, no. This is a fully-fledged compact roadster. Celerity is only one of the new Golf’s outstanding qualities.

The Golf R happens to stick to the road like glue as well. Helping it to do so is the Haldex all-wheel-drive system. And electronic locking differentials create the needed traction when exploring the Golf’s full potential for speed.

Volkswagen lets the Golf’s performance speak for itself, leaving behind “gaudy spoilers or rocker-panel spats.” It appears to be just what it is: four wheels of driving fun. This is exactly the kind of ride that will have you taking the long way to the grocery store, and re-connecting with those moments when you first got your license, when driving was exciting and new.
