Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR Is Road-Friendly Racer

Last month, Volkswagen unveiled the VW Golf GTI TCR, a road-friendly variant of its TCR racer that competes in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. The model was on display at the Wörthersee show in early May. While the Golf GTI TCR is currently only a concept model, VW plans to put out a production version by the end of this year.

Under The Hood.

The Golf GTI TCR is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that cranks out 286 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. With this engine lurking beneath the hood, the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR can reach a top speed of 155 miles an hour. If you opt for a higher trim and remove the car’s speed limiter, you can up the ante to 164 mph. This potent engine is married to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and gets its stopping power from perforated brake discs with special calipers and pads.

Exterior Look.

The new GTI TCR sits on 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, though it is also available with 19-inch wheels. The exterior is defined by a contoured splitter in the front, a honeycomb grille, and a rear air diffuser. The road-ready racer also boasts TCR lettering on its sides and, even more impressive, logo projections on the ground when the doors are opened.

The Golf GTI TCR is sure to be an exciting addition to the VW lineup. Here at Sierra Volkswagen, we’re eagerly awaiting its arrival in our showroom in Ottawa, IL.
